Becoming a foster family

We need two types of foster families. The first is to place special-needs animals in temporary homes until they are ready for adoption. The second category is for animals that are ready for adoption and are waiting for an adoptive family.

Refuge Madawaska covers expenses incurred by foster families while fostering an animal (accessories, litter, food, leashes, cleaning products, veterinary fees, etc.).

We are unable to determine how long an animal will remain in the care of Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc. so if you are considering fostering an animal, please ensure that you can accommodate the animal until it finds its permanent home.

Host families must agree with the programs, practices and principles of Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc. While many caring people express an interest in becoming a foster family, our responsibility is to ensure the best possible care for our animals, which requires that we place animals with people who have sufficient experience to recognize and respond appropriately to any health situations that may arise.

After completing the foster care application form, candidates will be invited to attend a selection interview at their home, during which their motivation, knowledge and ability to effectively meet the demands of this vital role will be discussed.
