The Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc. celebrated its 2nd year anniversary, as well as their dedicated volunteers and financial partners during a volunteer recognition event on March 1st.
During the evening, appreciation certificates were presented to the many volunteers who donated their time over the past year. In total, the Refuge Madawaska Shelter can count on approximately 100 passionate volunteers, who have helped out throughout the year. The Volunteer of the Year was also announced, where the Refuge Madawaska Shelter honorary plaque was presented to Geneviève Gagnon.
Many financial partners, local businesses and the media were also recognized by the organization for their contribution to the Refuge Madawaska Shelter’s success over the years. Employees of the Grand Falls Pet Valu, were notably honored for being responsible for over 100 adoptions, before the store closed its doors.
The co- founders of the Refuge Madawaska Shelter, Christine Landry and Line Desrosiers, were honored in order to demonstrate gratitude for having founded the organization 2 years ago, as well as for saving more than 500 lives since then!
Christine Landry, Board Chair, took a moment to pay tribute to each member of the administrative committee.
The evening was filled with emotionally filled anecdotes, and stories, surrounding the Refuge Madawaska Shelter in order for everyone to get to know those who are involved with the organization. In addition, a surprise awaited all members of the administrative committee. Mrs. Paula Michaud, unveiled the total sum of money raised thanks to her “Just Because“ Fundraiser. The 500$ objective set was surpassed, with a total of $840.00 raised and presented to the members of the Refuge Madawaska Shelter. This amount will be deposited into the Construction account.
Regarding the construction project, Christine Landry, was pleased to announced the addition of a new member of the administrative committee, Mylène Violette, who will be in charge of the fundraising for the Shelter.
Finally, attendees were treated to a video montage showing all the work that volunteers and Refuge Madawaska Shelter have done until today, thereby , unveiling a song that was composed especially for the Shelter, entitled Sauve Moi , performed by Lucie Robert and accompanied by the music of the band la Gagne à Pierrot .
