EDMUNDSTON â June 9th 2014 – From August 7 to August 24 Charles Collin, along with his dog Junior, will be walking from Tracadie-Sheila to Edmundston, in order to raise funds for the Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc.
As an avid walker and hiker, Mr. Charles Collin has already participated in walks of great distance, which took place in several different locations such as Costa Rica in 2012, GR 65 The Way of St James in 2013, and Hiking in Utah in 2014. Originally, the fundraiser walk was to take place between Quebec and Edmundston, but with the World Acadian Congress coming up, the route was modified for the occasion. Mr. Collin will begin his journey around August 7th from Tracadie-Sheila, which will end over 500km later, in Edmundston, around August 24th. During his walk, Mr. Collin will visit several locations such as Tracadie-Sheila, RiviĂšre-Brideau, Haut-Caraquet, New Bandon, Bathurst, Belldune, Charlo, Campbellton, Upsalquitch, St-Jean-Baptiste, Kedgwick, St-Quentin, Veneer, St-LĂ©onard and Edmundston.
During his trek, Mr. Charles Collin will take cover for the night in camping sites, even in the wild at some point. He will be solely accompanied by his dog Junior, his loyal companion, bringing only the bare necessities.
Mr. Charles Collin wanted to organize this walk to support a cause dear to his heart, The Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc. In the following weeks âJunior Pawsâ will be sold for the price of $2, $5, $10, and $20+ and posted in a public location, in order to raise funds. Local businesses will be invited to support Charles and Junior in their 500k walk.
“Local businesses have shown great enthusiasm. We have already received a pledge of partnership, even before the fundraising campaign was officially launched. These types of fundraising activities are rare in the region and people are interested! In addition, it is an activity which promotes physical health plus itâs for a good cause.â commented Mr. Charles Collin.
As soon as Charles reaches St-Leonard, The Refuge Madawaska Shelter members will relay, and accompany him on his final stretch to Edmundston. Everyone making a $5 donation will be invited to join him to his final destination.
The arrival point will be at the construction site of The Refuge Madawaska Shelter, located on the Madawaska Maliseet First Nation, where a family dinner is to be held. Further details will be provided in the following weeks.
Please note that Mr. Collin will absorb any expenses incurred during his expedition, where 100% of the funds raised will be transferred to the Refuge Madawaska Shelter, for the construction.
