We have two categories of fostering need. The first one is for the placement of special needs animals into temporary homes until they are ready to be adopted. The second category is for the animals that are ready for adoption and are waiting for the perfect family to adopt them.

The Madawaska Shelter takes care of foster families’ expenses while they take care of an animal (accessories, litter, food, leashes, cleaning products, veterinary fees, etc.).

We are unable to determine how long an animal will stay in the care of the Refuge Madawaska Shelter, so if you are considering fostering an animal, please make sure that you can accommodate the animal until it finds its permanent home.

Foster care providers must be in agreement with the programs, practices and principles of the Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc.  Although many caring individuals express an interest in becoming foster care providers, our responsibility to ensure the best possible care for our animals requires that we place them with people who have sufficient experience to recognize and respond appropriately to any health situations that may arise.

After completion of the Foster Care Application form, applicants will be asked to participate in a screening interview at their home during which their motivation, knowledge and ability to effectively meet the requirements of this vital role will be discussed.
