For the past year and a half, over 500 cats and dogs found a new home thanks to the work by our volunteers.

Last week, during a press conference, the blueprints for the Refuge Madawaska Shelter were presented to the public. Also, Madawaska Maliseet First Nation Chief Patricia Bernard announced the first nation was donating a piece of land for the construction of the shelter. She also committed to find $100,000 by the end of 2014 for the construction. The project will cost around $400,000; we still need to find some funds to complete our construction budget.

We entered the “AVIVA Community Fund” contest. In the first round, we finished in third place in our category and we qualified for the semi-finals. The semi-finals are on and will continue until December 11. The competition is fierce. We ask you to please go to AVIVA’s website every day and vote for our project, the Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc.

We absolutely must finish in the top-10 projects in our category to get a chance to win up to $150,000. We are presently in the top-10, but we are followed closely. We would also appreciate if you could please forward this email to your friends, family, and colleagues. The more votes we get, the better are the chances we will qualify for the final round.

We are presently operating through host families and we need more than ever a permanent location for the Refuge Madawaska Shelter for our animals.

Let’s all work towards a common goal: build an animal shelter in the Edmundston area!

The Refuge Madawaska Shelter team
