EDMUNDSTON, October 17, 2013 – The Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc. has accessed the semifinals of the AVIVA Community Fund contest.

At the end of the first qualifying round, which took place from September 30 to October 14, the Refuge Madawaska Shelter did very well, finishing 5th among all projects submitted across Canada and 3rd in the “big budget” category. Since only the first 10 projects from each category qualified for the semi-final, this 3rd position therefore allows them to access it directly, without having to participate in the 2nd and 3rd qualifying rounds.

Refuge Madawaska Shelter Board Chair Christine Landry, was very blessed by this result. “This proves that we have the support of the population and that people see everything we do for the animals. They are aware that we need to have a building to accommodate more animals and save even more lives. As a Shelter, we refuse animals on a daily basis due to a lack of space in our foster families. With this result, which goes beyond our expectations, we really feel supported by the population and it encourages us to continue to grow. Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc. therefore hopes to have the same support from the population again for the semi-finals which will be held from December 2nd to the 10th. We will need even more support on the part of the population since the semi-finals are much more difficult. We invite people to remember and to vote every si gle day for the shelter and to talk to their friends, colleagues and relatives. People can also follow us on our Facebook page and register for our newsletter on our site at the www.refugemadawaskashelter.org in order to get a little reminder.”

Among the 90 projects that will eventually make it to the semifinals, only 30 will qualify for the final round. If the Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc. is able to make it in the finals, it will be assured of receiving at least $5,000, but the amount could reach $150,000.
