Bengal looking with one EyeEDMUNDSTON, September 16, 2013 – The Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc. will be present now more than ever in the community to raise funds and raise awareness.

The series of events begins with a car wash, which will be held Saturday, September 21rst, between 9 am and 3 pm at G & M Chevrolet Edmundston. Members of the Board of Directors and volunteers of the shelter will be on hand to wash your car at a cost of 5$ only.

Board members of the Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc. and volunteers will join forces with waiters and waitresses to serve and talk with customers. Boston Pizza will donate 10 % of sales made during this event to the Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc.

In October, the shelter will be just as busy with the adoption weekend which will take place October 4-5-6th, 2013, at your Pet Valu, at both Edmundston and Grand Falls locations. The population will go to one of two places to meet different animals available for adoption. It is an important activity since these days typically result in up to 39 adoptions, which will in turn create vacancies in our Foster Families for new residents patiently waiting for their place. The population is invited to come and visit us October 4th from 9 am to 9 pm, as well as October 5th between 9 am and 5 pm and finally October 6th between noon and 5 pm.

For Halloween, the Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc. offers to the public again to have their pet photographed in a setting designed with the colors of Halloween. People can visit us, along with their pets, on October 19th from 10 am to 6 pm and Oct. 20th from noon to 5 pm at the Quality Inn Edmundston. The cost of the session is only $ 5 and the photos will be given at a later date, after they have been edited and printed.

The Aviva contest is back for the fifth year and the Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc. will seek once again, as last year, the participation of the public in this contest for the chance to win the Aviva Community Fund. Note that last year, the Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc. made it to the quarterfinals. The Aviva contest will run from September 30th until mid- December. This is the period where we will be asking the community to vote for the Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc.’s idea every day on the Aviva website, in order to raise as many votes as possible and get as far in the competition.

The Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc. will also launch a campaign to recruit foster care families. Having no building to operate, the Shelter relies solely on foster families to house animals that are waiting for a permanent family. The shelter is always looking for additional families who would save the life of an animal by temporarily offering their homes to animals in need of shelter. A video has also been produced and will be distributed shortly to raise awareness about the importance of foster families. In it, we find success stories as well as images of some of the animals in bad shape they’ve attempted to save … The Shelter and its members hope this video will convince people to help. The Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc. wishes to advise that all that you have to provide as a Foster Care Family is Love and the Shelter will take care of the rest, such as food, accessories and vet care.

Finally, the Madawaska Refuge Shelter Inc. continues to promote the importance of vaccines and spaying/neutering. Too few people follow through with this responsibility as pet owners, which creates overpopulation of stray and abandoned animals in the region. Unfortunately, the shelter has faced many heart wrenching situations in recent weeks. Animals arrived at the shelter with many diseases … that could have been avoided if vaccines had been administered. Pictures of these animals have been posted in effort to raise awareness.
