Edmundston, December 13, 2013 – As a result of the semi-finals, the Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc. is now a finalist in the Aviva Community Fund. Among the 31 projects in the semi-final “large budget” category, $100,000 to $150,000$, the Refuge Madawaska Shelter finished in 7th place with almost 13 000 votes. This position makes it possible for them to advance to the final step of the competition. Only the first 10 places in each category could go to the finals. For the past year and a half, over 500 cats and dogs found a new home thanks to the work by our volunteers. Last week, during a press conference, the blueprints for the Refuge Madawaska Shelter were presented to the public. Also, Madawaska Maliseet First Nation Chief Patricia Bernard announced the first nation was donating a piece of land for the construction of the shelter. She also committed to find $100,000 by the end of 2014 for the construction. The project will cost around $400,000; we still need to find some funds to complete our construction budget.
