Edmundston residents may get their dog tags any time. The tags are mandatory for each dog you own. You must provide the vaccination log to prove the dog was vaccinated against rabbies and a proof that it is neutered when you buy the tag. Tags are available at $10 for neutered dogs and $25 for non-neutered dogs. You may buy the tags at the Animalerie RL Tropical, Pet Valu, the Madawaska Veterinarian Hospital, and during special events from the Refuge Madawaska Shelter. All funds go to the Refuge Madawaska Shelter.
Emotions were high August 23 when Charles Collin and his dog Junior ended their 500 km journey, which started August 4 in Tracadie-Sheila. This great adventure filled with nice encounters, anecdotes, and generosity was a memorable experience for Charles Collin. The amount raised during the journey was kept secret from Charles by the organizing committee until the very end. People who attended Charles’ arrival were happily surprised to see that $8,000 were raised by selling paws and collecting money donations. On this morning of August 4th, Charles Collin and his dog Junior are taking their first steps en route to Edmundston, from their starting point in Tracadie-Sheila. The start date of this 500km walk was initially planned for August 7th, but in order to make it in time, Mr. Collin & Junior will hit the road a few days earlier. The two companions will walk 500km to reach their final destination on the Madawaska Maliseet First Nation, bringing only the bare necessities. They are expected to arrive August 23rd or 24th. EDMUNDSTON – June 9th 2014 – From August 7 to August 24 Charles Collin, along with his dog Junior, will be walking from Tracadie-Sheila to Edmundston, in order to raise funds for the Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc. As an avid walker and hiker, Mr. Charles Collin has already participated in walks of great distance, which took place in several different locations such as Costa Rica in 2012, GR 65 The Way of St James in 2013, and Hiking in Utah in 2014. EDMUNDSTON, May 28, 2014 – The Refuge Madawaska Shelter has received a cheque of great value, from the Madawaska SPCA. During an extraordinary meeting of the Refuge Madawaska Shelter, which was held Tuesday May 27th, Mrs. Marie-Andrée Roy. The Madawaska SPCA was incorporated in the Madawaska County, February 20th 1991. Due to incontrollable circumstances, the organization was dissolved. During that time, the Veterinarian Hospital, l’hôpital vétérinaire du Madawaska, located in St-Jacques, started an initiative of their own, by creating an adoption program. The Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc. celebrated its 2nd year anniversary, as well as their dedicated volunteers and financial partners during a volunteer recognition event on March 1st. During the evening, appreciation certificates were presented to the many volunteers who donated their time over the past year. In total, the Refuge Madawaska Shelter can count on approximately 100 passionate volunteers, who have helped out throughout the year. The Volunteer of the Year was also announced, where the Refuge Madawaska Shelter honorary plaque was presented to Geneviève Gagnon. Edmundston, January 28, 2014 – Following the final round of the Aviva Community Fund competition, the Refuge Madawaska Shelter receives a lump sum of $5,000. The jury’s decision was announced this morning during CTV’s Canada AM morning show. The Refuge Madawaska Shelter qualified for the final round in December 2013 after receiving tremendous support from people all around the country by getting 13000 votes during the semi-finals. Edmundston, December 13, 2013 – As a result of the semi-finals, the Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc. is now a finalist in the Aviva Community Fund. Among the 31 projects in the semi-final “large budget” category, $100,000 to $150,000$, the Refuge Madawaska Shelter finished in 7th place with almost 13 000 votes. This position makes it possible for them to advance to the final step of the competition. Only the first 10 places in each category could go to the finals. For the past year and a half, over 500 cats and dogs found a new home thanks to the work by our volunteers. Last week, during a press conference, the blueprints for the Refuge Madawaska Shelter were presented to the public. Also, Madawaska Maliseet First Nation Chief Patricia Bernard announced the first nation was donating a piece of land for the construction of the shelter. She also committed to find $100,000 by the end of 2014 for the construction. The project will cost around $400,000; we still need to find some funds to complete our construction budget.
